projekt Anna House in Selenogradsk (Cranz): Training for real life The Head of the Education Authority in Kaliningrad, Mr Isaev, alerted us to an urgent problem: preparing for daily life and providing accommodation for children who would otherwise be homeless subsequent to being discharged from a home. He suggested the initiation of an assisted living project, in collaboration with projekt Anna, intended to prepare the young people for independent living.
In order to realise this vision, we financed the reconstruction of a former warehouse located on the grounds of the orphanage in Selenogradsk. Since its completion in November 2008, it bears the name "Dom projekt Anna.
Dom projekt Anna currently accommodates 10 young people who, due to age, would not be entitled to a place in the home ensuing conclusion of formal school education and who would otherwise, literally, be left out on the streets. This type of accommodation is planned for a period of one year, during which the young people would be prepared for life outside the home. The dwelling is supervised by a professional social worker, who also spent her childhood in the home in Selenogradsk. This is the first establishment for assisted living which bears the name Dom projekt Anna. |
